18 – 23 April 2016 - Dr. Sita Sumrit, Chief of Women and Children Empowerment Programme, Thailand Institute of Justice, led her research team to Malaysia to conduct a field research on“Women as Justice Makers: Roles, Trajectories and Influence” research project.
During this field research, the Women and Children Empowerment Programme team had the opportunity to interview key personnel who have outstanding contributions in support of justice for women and the role of women in the justice system in Malaysia, such as Dr.Sivananthi Thanenthiran, Executive Director of the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW), Natasha Dandavati and Lainey Lau from the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO), Rozana Isa, Executive Director of Sisters in Islam, Harleen Kaur from the Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre, P A Sharon, Chair of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Selangor Bar Committee, and Goh Siu Lin, Executive Director of Malaysia’s Association of Women Lawyers (AWL). The aim of this research project is to study about the rights, roles, and trajectories of women in the justice system as well as women’s access to justice in Malaysia.
