The Crime and Development Programme seeks to strengthen TIJ’s ability to consolidate its knowledge base and raise awareness on the interrelationship between crime and development. The Programme draws from both existing TIJ research and new cross-cutting issues, in line with relevant policy frameworks, including the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together. Areas of research include development-led responses to preventing crime, reducing re-offending, and supporting successful reintegration of offenders into society. The goal of the Programme is to support crime prevention and criminal justice reform for sustainable development in Thailand and the ASEAN region.
The Crime and Development Programme will build on the established platform, particularly, the ASEAN Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (ACCPCJ) which is a regional forum established by the ASEAN Senior Law Officials Meeting at the proposal by TIJ to foster discussion and dialogues on cross-cutting issues related to crime and justice among policy makers, practitioners, academia, civil society, international organizations and the private sector.
Flagship Activities
- Research on issues related to crime prevention, reducing re-offending, and reintegration of offenders into society.
- Promote development-led crime prevention and treatment of offenders in Southeast Asia trough existing mechanism such as ACCPCJ and ASEAN Declaration on a Culture of Prevention.
- Policy advocacy on development-led crime prevention and treatment of offenders.
