TIJ co-hosted the Meeting to discuss the new joint research project

October 19 – 21, 2015 - The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), in partnership with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), co-hosted a Stakeholders’ Meeting to discuss the new TIJ-UNICRI joint research project entitled “Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges of Transnational Organized Crime in the Context of ASEAN Community”.


The purpose of the research is to assess how ASEAN and its Member States are preparing to address challenges posed by transnational organized crime to justice and security that might arise in the context of the regional economic integration, with a focus on the case of Thailand. The final objective of the research is to inform legal reform, policy making and law enforcement activities with a view to better counter transnational organized crime in the ASEAN region.


The Meeting aims at collecting substantive inputs from a variety of relevant experts and professionals which will serve as a foundation for further development of the research. And Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, the Executive Director of TIJ, gave an opening remarks with the two Research Directors, Dr. Cindy Smith (Director of UNICRI) and Mrs. Santanee Ditsayabut (Prosecutor, Project Director at TIJ).


Participants including representatives from Thai Government Agencies, academia, non-governmental organizations, press, the private sector, as well as international organizations and foreign Embassies.
