The 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)

15-24 March 2016— Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, Director of the Office of External Relations and Policy Coordination, Dr. Sita Sumrit, Chief of the Women and Children Empowerment Programme, and TIJ team joined the 60th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, USA. TIJ organized a side event on the topic of “Women Legal Empowerment for Sustainable Development” which underlined its role in promoting women’s rights, in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 5 and Goal 16.


During the side event, TIJ presented the findings from the “Scoping Studies on Women Access to Justice: ASEAN Perspective”. Experts who also shared their works included Ms. Abigail Moy, Director of Global Legal Empowerment Network, NAMATI: Innovations in Legal Empowerment; Ms. Norul Rashid, the Rule of Law Programme and Policy Advisor from UN Women; and Prof. Sarah Knuckey, Co-Director of Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute.
