TIJ Hosted the Consultative Group Meeting for the 3rd ACCPCJ

 

The 2nd Consultative Group Meeting (CGM), held on the 7-8 March 2022 in Phuket, Thailand, was a hybrid meeting organized by the Thailand Institute of Justice, the designated coordinator for the preparations of the 3rd ASEAN Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (ACCPCJ). The 3rd ACCPCJ will be held in mid-2022 in Thailand.

 

The Meeting was attended by ASEAN Member States’ representatives from ASEAN Senior Law Officials’ Meeting (ASLOM), Senior Officials’ Meeting for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (SOCA),  Senior Officials’ Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC), and the Senior Officials’ Meeting of the Central Authorities on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (SOM-MLAT), and ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Youth (SOMY), while Thailand’s representatives are from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Attorney General, Court of Justice and Royal Thai Police, and Nitivajra Institute.  

 

The 2nd CGM was successfully concluded that the 3rd ACCPCJ will be focusing on the theme: “Responding to Crime and Justice Challenges amidst ASEAN Recovery from the Covid-19 Crisis,” especially, the Covid-19 pandemic impact on the economy and society. In the same vein, the 3rd ACCPCJ also aims to explore the impact of the pandemic on the justice and law sectors of ASEAN and how ASEAN Member States can promote crime prevention and criminal justice as a means to complement the relevant Broad Strategies of the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF).

 

Moreover, the substantive issues to be discussed at the 3rd ACCPCJ were decided, namely: (i) cybercrime, (ii) justice reforms, and (iii) international cooperation.
