TIJ attend the meeting of 24th CCPCJ in Vienna, Austria

TIJ attend the meeting of 24th Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice - CCPCJ) on May 18 to 22, 2015 at The United Nations in Vienna, Austria

The topic of 24th Session of CCPCJ discussed on the follow-up to the Thirteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (13th UN Crime Congress). And on May 19, 2015 TIJ co-hosted side event with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime UNODC, International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy ICCLR and Academic Council on the United Nations System ACUNS by attended a presentation on "Violence Against Women: From Rape to Femicide - Criminal Justice as Prevention and Cure? which feature an expert panel discussion from representatives on violence against women (VAW) covering VAW issues from domestic violence, sexual assault, rape to gender-related killing of women and girls (femicide) in different countries and cultural contexts.


The representatives from TIJ including Dr.Phiset Saardyen (Director of External Relations and Policy Coordination), Ms. Jane Holloway (Programme Specialist Crime and Development) and Dr. Sita Sumrit (Expert of Women and Children Empowerment) presented the issues which related to violence against women on "THE TRIAL OF RAPE: Understanding the criminal justice system response to sexual violence in Thailand and Viet Nam". It aims to provide a platform to share evidence-based research and promote solution-oriented dialogue on the roles of criminal justice system in preventing, alleviating and finally eradicating violence against women. Multi-country studies on criminal justice system response to sexual violence (Vietnam, Thailand and India) as well as key recommendations from the intergovernmental expert group meeting on gender-related killing of women and girls organized by UNODC in Bangkok in November 2014 will form a basis for the discussion of this side event.


CCPCJ or the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice which is an important mechanism of the United Nations and Member States to work together and set policy on criminal justice process and the development process with exchanging knowledge and promote UN standards and norms into practice.
