The third annual Training Programme on International Standards and Norms in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (iCPCJ 2026) officially commenced today at the TIJ Academy. Organized by the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the programme aims to bridge international frameworks with practical judicial reform.

The iCPCJ 2026 curriculum is designed for "Justice Makers"—practitioners who seek to integrate international standards and procedural innovations into the justice system. The programme features intensive modules focused on a people-centered justice approach, enhancement of access to justice, and the application of innovation and technology. Participants are encouraged to act as "Justice Designers," tasked with conceptualizing the future of the criminal justice landscape.

In the opening remarks for the iCPCJ 2026 programme, themed “Co-creating People-Centered Justice for All,” Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen of the TIJ and Ms. Delphine Schantz of the UNODC emphasized the urgent need to transform justice institutions into accessible, equitable, and transparent entities to restore public confidence. A central feature of this year’s training is the "Co-creation" initiative, which tasks participants with developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges provided by the Nitivajra Institute, the Office of the Judiciary, and the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection. Additionally, the programme leverages policy development tools from the Thailand Policy Lab—a collaboration between the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). By bridging international standards with domestic needs, this partnership aims to empower participants as agents of change who can build a justice system that is truly responsive to the rights of the populace.

Ms. Sommanat Juaseekoon, Director of the TIJ Academy, and Ms. Tiffany Chen, Project Manager at the Thailand Policy Lab (UNDP), also welcomed the 44 participants. This year’s cohort comprises representatives from government justice agencies, legal practitioners, and personnel from the private sector and non-profit organizations.

The iCPCJ programme will be conducted every Thursday from 15 January through March 2026 at the Thailand Institute of Justice.
