TIJ Hosts a Seminar for Senior Attorneys on “Technology and Justice”
“Nowadays, cybercrime poses a greater threat to our society. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNODC identified that the number of cyber-related crimes tend to rise, and organized crimes are utilizing more sophisticated technologies. Thus, it is a challenge for our justice system to track down and collect forensic data to prosecute perpetrators.” Prof. Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice, said during the opening ceremony of a Seminar for Senior Justice Executive on “Technology and Justice.”
Technology has become more and more critical to our everyday lives across the globe. More importantly it affects the overall characteristics of crimes in our society. In order to promptly and effectively respond to these new forms of criminal activities, stakeholders involved in the justice system need to learn and acquaint themselves with the major changes or trends that are currently emerging. By equipping them with the right tools and mindset, they would be able to adapt to these technological changes and take advantage of the available technology to manage, analyze, and investigate cases of cyber-related crimes.
The TIJ, together with the Office of the Attorney General, held a seminar for 70 senior attorneys on “Technology and Justice,” on 25 August 2020 at the JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok. The seminar aims to encourage a shift towards a more adaptability-focused mindset by providing the participants with insights on emerging megatrends, showcasing good practices of change made by organizations in response to those trends, and introducing the Futures Thinking framework and the Strategic Foresight tool.
In the morning session of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Kittipong delivered an opening speech, followed by a presentation from senior executives of Krungthai Bank, including Mr. Payong Srivanich, President and CEO, and Mrs. Praralee Ratanaprasartporn, Senior Executive Vice President - Head of Digital Solutions Group, on the topic of “Digital Transformation: the Case Study of D-Court”, a project co-developed by Krungthai Bank and the Court of Justice Thailand. The participants were then invited to a site visit at the Krungthai Innovation Lab. The seminar continued in the afternoon with a workshop titled “Megatrends and the Future of the Justice System”, conducted by members of ChangeFusion Group, led by Mr. Sunit Shrestha (Founder and Managing Director), and Mr. Chitpong Kittinaradorn (Data Scientist), and a team from the TIJ’s innovation unit – Project j.
