TIJ Joins Hands with the IGLP’s Harvard Law School to Offer the First Two Short-term Programmes on the Rule of Law in Asia.

The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) places importance on knowledge advancement of the rule of law in promoting the sustainable development. TIJ believes that knowledge can effectively connect people in a network of changemakers who can bring about constructive reforms. Hence, in collaboration with the Institution for Global Law and Policy, Harvard Law School, TIJ launch two exclusive short programmes to strengthen the capabilities of personnel and agencies involved in justice systems in Thailand, Asia, and the international community. The programmes aim to promote the effective application of the rule of law to end inequality and injustice in society and correspond to the basis of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 16 and 17.

The collaboration between TIJ and IGLP’s Harvard Law School commenced in 2017 under the TIJ Executive Program on the Rule of Law and Development or RoLD programme. The programme successfully involved by more than 50 executives from the public and private sectors as well as civil society. The programme led to activities encouraging the promotion of the rule of law and sustainable development such as the TIJ Public Forum on the rule of law and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

From the last year achievement, this year, TIJ and IGLP’s Harvard Law School strengthening their relations with the launch of their two short-term exclusive programmes, “TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy” and the “IGLP Workshop.” The two programs under this collaboration aim through a globally-renowned curriculum designed by professors and experts from the Harvard Law School and the TIJ network. Both programs will take place from 7 to 11 January 2018 at the Dusit Thani Hotel.

The first program, the TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy, is an intensive co-program designed exclusively for young scholars, policymakers, and emerging leaders who want to drive positive change in society and are aware of the importance of the justice system and its link to the policymaking process in Thailand and throughout the ASEAN region. The workshop will unlock participants’ perspectives and focus on issues related to the rule of law, reform of the judicial process, policymaking for sustainable development, reducing inequality, and the ability to cope with change, by making practical linkages between the rule of law and the policymaking process relating to economic, political, and social development at the local, regional, and international levels.

The second program, the IGLP Workshop, is mainly administered by the Harvard Law School’s Institute for Global Law & Policy and supported by the TIJ. It will allow selected candidates who are academics and researchers, especially professors from Thailand, the ASEAN region, and other countries, to share their teaching and research experiences, foster research excellence, and fortify academic knowledge about the rule of law. After the workshop, the participants can share their newfound expertise with their own students and others involved in policy advocacy, extending the workshop’s insights to a new generation.
