24 March 2016—TIJ hosted a forum on “Success Factors in the Protection and Assistance of Victims of Forced Labour in the Agricultural Sector”. The panelists, including Mr. Wanchai Roujanavong, Senior Prosecutor; Pol.Col. Somdet Thitawattanasakul, Deputy Commander of Phetchaburi Provincial Police, as well as experts from the civil society, private law firms and social workers, discussed their experiences in prosecuting human trafficking cases. More than 100 officers, practitioners, experts, scholars, and civil society participated.
The case of a farm in Phetchaburi province was raised as the example of the panelists’ successful cooperative efforts. They also presented lessons learned, challenges, obstacles in the prosecution process and, most importantly, the approaches taken to protect the victims’ rights.
