TIJ and UNODC co-host Expert Meeting “Prevention of Violence against Women”

Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) conducted the Expert Group Meeting on the Development of Model Action Plan/ Protocol for the Criminal Justice System and Violence against Women and Girls from 17 to19 June 2013 at Four Seasons Hotel, Bangkok.



UNODC representatives, prosecutors, judges, researchers, police, and experts in the areas of crime prevention and criminal justice assembled and shared experience and their respective recommendations of the United Nations Updated Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Women. The discussion revolved around several areas including: legislation, prosecution services, judiciary/ specialized courts, victim services, research and analysis, crime prevention policies and strategies, and international cooperation, for example.

The participants of the meeting encouraged women to  stand up to protect themselves. Determined to develop the model action plan/ protocol to protect women and girls from violence, the participants also urged organizations in criminal justice system to consider advancing the prevention and response to violence against women and girls into practice by taking into account of the women’s economy, society, education and family.
