The Side Event: Integrating Sport in Youth Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Strategies
“The approach to use sport training and life-skills training has been initiated by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha. It is a tool to help and rehabilitate children and youth who are prone to be victims of violence or in conflict with the law, especially, those who are already delinquents. The approach places importance on tertiary crime prevention, reducing recidivism, and reintegration. And in Thailand, one of the best practices of integrating sport strategies is the “Bounce Be Good Club” or BBG.”
In this regard, the TIJ in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, are hosting the side event “Integrating Sport in Youth Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Strategies” on Tuesday, 21 May 2019. It aims to promote best practices of the BBG club, exchange experiences among countries, and reflect on the possibilities of advocacy to support and empower youth and children who have been in conflict with the law in sustainable ways.
