A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), and Douglas Durán Chavarría, Executive Director of the United Nations Latin American Institute for Crime Prevention and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD), to work together on the development of justice systems in Asia and Latin America.
This MoU, signed on November 28, 2024, in San Jose, Costa Rica, is the first step toward building justice system capability and sharing knowledge and best practices on prison reform, gender-sensitive justice, restorative justice, and the rule of law. Additionally, it is fortifying ties amongst UN Programme Network Institutes (UN PNIs) in order to enhance international collaboration.
The signed agreement reaffirms the TIJ and ILANUD's dedication to advancing the development of regional and international justice systems to guarantee equity and fairness for all in the long run.
